Spring and Summer 2011 Warm or Wash Out?
With the long, cold and wet winter nights seemingly coming to an end going into March, many outdoor adventure seekers will be hoping that the spring and summer seasons of 2011 bring warmer temperatures and sustained dry weather. Activities such as camping, hiking, mountain climbing and general outdoor sports will all feel the benefit of better weather.
April has seen mixed fortunes up to press, however the overall climate has been warm in comparison to early March and the previous months of the winter season. It has been noticeable that there is an increase in hiking in rural areas already.
The use and range of outdoor clothing worn is one part of the outdoor sector that obviously sees a high number of changes, from fleece and waterproofs in winter to t-shirts and lighter jackets in the spring and summer.
Early long range weather forcasts suggest that although the winter is coming to an end UK residents are likely to see a short lived spell of end of winter weather before moving into April and seeing below average rainfall and slightly above average temperatures. For outdoor clothing retailers this is certainly good news in the short term as winter sales come to an end in that the next few weeks will still see demand for winter clothing whilst spring ranges will be in demand quickly.
Not getting to far into the year and risking poor predicitons, forecasters have said that the early weather reports for May and June suggest mixed fortunes, less rainfall than expected in the north of the UK, whilst in the south increased levels of rainfall. Again this type of mixed weather could see a varied impact and random sales pattern for outdoor clothing retailers. Temperature wise, May is forecast to be close to average for many, whereas June sees that turn to cooler temperatures than normal.
Trying to predict the weather, even after reviewing forecasts online by the experts will not guarantee that it becomes a reality, you only have to look at events in Japan recently to see how unpredictable the climate and nature can be to confirm that it is earth in control, not early forecasts.
Online retailers of outdoor clothing have already begun to announce new ranges and discount winter stock which shows that the industry is hopeful of sustained warm weather.
It is with great confidence you can say that the outdoor industry will benefit from improved weather and as a result outdoor activity throughout the spring and summer seasons will increase. Good news all round hopefully for outdoor enthusiasts this year, only time will tell, as we all know weather forecasts are rarely 100% accurate even on the day! Here is hoping for an accurate prediction.
